Stonyhurst
Description
Stonyhurst College (13-18 years), together with its preparatory school Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall (3-13), is the UK’s leading co‑educational Catholic boarding and day school for 3 – 18 year olds. We welcome all denominations and boarding is available from 7 years.
The school is set in a magnificent Grade I listed building in a beautiful rural setting in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley, England. Stonyhurst has an outstanding academic record, with many pupils going on to top universities in the UK, Europe and around the world. Teaching at Stonyhurst centres on the individual. Small classes and positive teacher–pupil relationships enable pupils to achieve their full academic potential. At the heart of everything that we do is delivering an exceptional education for our pupils and ensuring that their formation, both inside and outside of the classroom, is the best in the world. We empower them to be the best that they can be, shaping leaders of the future.
The sixth form offers a choice of three study routes – A Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma or the IB Career Related Programme. Stonyhurst’s creative life is rich and varied, offering many opportunities to learn, perform and compete across music, art, drama and dance. Sport plays an important part in the life of Stonyhurst, including rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, athletics and football. Facilities include a swimming pool, a nine‑hole golf course, all‑weather pitch, and indoor and outdoor tennis courts. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is extremely successful too, as is the Combined Cadet Force. Over 100 different activities are offered each week.
Living in a supportive and diverse community, our pupils develop those qualities of character that will distinguish them in later life as men and women for others. A Jesuit education provides a foundation for such a life, nurturing individuality and encouraging generosity. It is a springboard to a life of purpose. We offer a range of Scholarships at 11+, 13+ and 16+. Means-tested Bursaries are also available.
