A leading independent boarding school for boys and girls aged 13 to 18.
Malvern College is rooted in the best of tradition but is forward-looking and ambitious for its future. Academic results are excellent and through the extensive co-curriculum pupils can develop the necessary personal qualities required for life beyond school. Emphasis on nurturing the individual is balanced by an understanding of the responsibility each has to play in the lives of others.
In 1992, Malvern was one of the first schools to offer the International Baccalaureate in the UK, running the IB alongside A levels in the Sixth Form. In the same year, the school became co-educational and celebrates the 25th anniversary of both developments this year.
Ideally placed in the inspirational setting of the Malvern Hills and close to the town of Great Malvern, we are close to major transport links and to Birmingham Airport.
Malvern is a full boarding school - 80% of our pupils board and weekends are busy. We seek to prepare those who study at Malvern to be adaptable in a fast-changing world, and our House system engenders a sense of community and collective purpose. Pupils eat in their Houses creating the family feel for which Malvern is well-known. Our focus is on providing outstanding pastoral care through the House system.
At Malvern, we are proud of our innovative spirit, and superb and developing facilities:
there are six boys houses and five girls houses, and in the extensive grounds there are sports pitches, tennis and netball courts and golf practice facilities. In addition, a large, modern sports complex encompasses a 25m swimming pool, a strength and conditioning suite, an eight-court sports hall, a shooting range, squash courts, dance studio and a fully equipped gym. There are two tournament-quality rackets courts, and two artificial hockey pitches including a new water-based pitch that opened in 2017. Malvern has a new and impressive science centre where young scientists can flourish. We are currently redeveloping the magnificent campus-based Rogers Theatre. We have an official partnership with Worcestershire County Cricket Club who use our facilities for their training and strong links with Worcester Warriors Rugby Club.
Our gifted teaching staff is our most valuable resource and makes Malvern College the very best place in which to learn. Please come and see us to discover what Malvern has to offer. Contact the Registrar, Mr Giles Vosper-Brown to arrange a visit for your family or see our website for Open Day information.
Old Malvernian Quotes:
I have enjoyed five amazing years at Malvern College. Its beautiful location is, in itself, inspiring and there is so much on offer academically, physically, creatively and socially. The school encourages participation by all and does a fantastic job of making students feel valued for their contributions in any sphere.
I joined Malvern College as a shy FY with a passion for both Sports and Music. The staff worked in harmony to help me manage my commitments, helping me to develop my organisational and communication skills; year by year I felt my confidence grow.
Particularly important to my experience was the house system; in No 4 I became part of a family headed by the most incredible supportive staff. It really was my second home and I made friends that I know I will keep for life. I'm sad that my time at Malvern is over but I feel fantastically prepared for the future.
All public schools can boast tradition, excellent facilities and grand old buildings. But Malvern is unique for various reasons and that is why I loved it so much. I really appreciated the beautiful campus situated on the Malvern Hills with stunning views over Worcestershire's countryside, while having a modern sports hall, gym and swimming pool.
Malvern is unusual for boarding schools in that each meal was eaten in your house where a first year could chat to a sixth former as well as teachers over lunch.
The teachers at Malvern put so much effort into sport and lessons that it made it a joy to participate and learn. I have made life-long friends through the College, who come from all over the world, some of whom I had the opportunity to see when on exchange to a school in Sydney.
The Downs Malvern, the College's associated preparatory school, is an outstanding day, weekly and full boarding school for girls and boys from 3 – 13 years. The prep school is set in its own impressive 55-acre campus, ten minutes, by car, away from the senior school. Here pupils benefit from outstanding teaching and superb facilities. Emphasis is on the outdoor curriculum, enabling young pupils to make the most of the wonderful outdoor country campus.
